One of my favorite books to read with Savanna is “Press Here” by Herve Tullet. It’s definitely not a bedtime book for us as reading it generally creates a lot of excitement.
When I decided that I wanted to start teaching Savanna spanish, I thought this would be the perfect book to help learn colors. I put together an activity book with different activities I had planned out after reading the book one week with her. There are about ten activities included in the unit study for you to use with your children – in both Spanish and English!
In addition to the nomenclature cards (also known as 3 part cards or Montessori cards), there are other games you can play just using household items.
After cutting circles from red, yellow and blue construction paper, I laid them all over the floor. I would call out the color and the size of the circle for Savanna to jump to. We played the game in Spanish (“rojo grande!”), but this can easily be played in any language!
We also made a chatterbox filled with fun activities or exercises.
I look forward to putting together more literature based activities as these were so much fun to play! Hope you enjoy as well!
