The title might be a little confusing – the activities are in both English and Spanish! Using the book “De la Cabeza a los Pies” (or From Head to Toe for the English version) by Eric Carle, I created this short unit study to learn animals and body parts.
We will be using this activity book when we start our 2016-17 Curriculum for the All About Me and My Body theme in September.
The activity book starts off with a page for your child to complete. They can fill out a paper much like the book, with their name, their movement and the body part involved. They can also draw a picture of themselves performing the movement in the circle frame at the top of the page. You can also take a picture of them performing the action and cut it out to glue to the page.
The activity book also includes both English and Spanish nomenclature cards for the animals that appear in the book as well as body parts. The body part cards are the body parts included in the book as well as others (like eyes, ears and nose).
The simplicity of the nomenclature cards is in the picture of an object and it’s name. They can be used with non-readers as children are able to match up letters on the labels and figure out which label goes to which picture. You’ll want to use two sets of the same card – one is your control set (you’ll leave the picture and label attached) and one is the working set. With the working set, you will detach the label from the picture. The child can then match the cards.
