I knew our month focusing on fairy tales was going to be fun and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Below is a recap of everything we did this month. All of the activities can be found on our Pinterest board as well and more information regarding materials needed can be found in our preview post.
We started off the month with learning what makes up a fairy tale and working on our crown from M is for Monster (they had a royal theme that is no longer available). We built our shape castle (also from the royal theme activity them pack) and worked on some simple math.
Our focus story the first week was the Three Little Pigs, so we had fun with an awesome STEM experiment building a house from straw, sticks and bricks! Savanna huffed and puffed to see which house was the strongest.
The next week we focused on Sleeping Beauty, one of Savanna’s favorite stories (and movies!). I found a great pack from A Teaching Mommy that we used all week for graphing, patterns, cutting, sorting and more.
And finally our last week was all about Little Red Riding Hood! My favorite activity of the week was definitely our Little Red and wolf painting. Savanna painted the night sky and then glued brown strips of construction paper for trees to the page to make it look like the woods. I cut out a Little Red and a wolf figure, and she also glued those down. How cute did that turn out?!
In addition to the fairy tale activities, we also worked on writing our letters and beginning sounds.
Our garden is growing so fast! We have a tree that she places an apple on every time she has learned how to write a litter by herself. Since she is only three, the criteria for a letter to get on the tree is easy. She needs to know how to write a letter without looking at an example. So if I say “write the letter H”, she knows how to write it without looking at a guide. The letter by no means needs to be perfect. Just legible enough that we all know what letter it is that she is writing!
An no day is complete without wearing a princess dress!
Join us next month for All About Me, our first official month of the school year!
